This started to prove exceptionally challenging when I realized the mobile version of Medium has some flaws… These flaws include not being able to submit to publications and also not being able to put posts behind the paywall. I would pull up my Medium app and scribble ideas or write paragraphs whenever I could. This meant in the car, in the bathroom, waiting in line at the store, waiting in line for the bathroom, waiting on my significant other to get ready (he’s a total sloth sometimes), or even when I’m cooking dinner and I have a free second. Trying to make time while I am trying to just be a human fulfilling all of my humanly needs is HARD! I started making sure I was writing every time I had a free moment in order to make that happen. Okay, first, blogging every day is SO hard. Sometimes the stars have to align for everything my to feel perfect in creating something, and that’s just not always going to happen.įor me I realized how important an alternative outlet was when I started blogging every day. Knowing how life works, you can count on that happening sooner or later. This is your emergency plan just in case something falls through. This could mean physically or mentally… We all have those creative blocks that keep us from moving forward (read more here), we have to be able to find alternative ways to still fulfill our passions! It provides you with a back-up game-plan just in case you aren’t in a place to be able to write. There are three reasons why having an alternative creative outlet is crucial for your future success. But I’m going to say it again so it sinks in… Writing doesn’t have to be your only outlet. This expression HAS to be unique to you - it has to offer you personal growth and development, it has to challenge you, push you out of your comfort zone (I wrote about ways to do that here), and ultimately offer you some sort of fulfillment. I think it’s terrible just to limit “creative” to things that involve the right side of your brain, because creativity comes in all shapes and sizes. All of those things are time consuming and honestly take a lot more work than people think…īut writing doesn’t have to be the only thing!Įssentially creative outlets means self expression. Depending on the writing that you’re doing you’re expressing yourself, working through challenging things, healing, problem solving, or even developing personalities and worlds. I know how amazing writing can be - how fulfilling. I’m here to tell you that if writing is your only creative outlet, then you’re selling yourself short. Whether you write for creative reasons or otherwise, you find value in this outlet. If you are on Medium, I would imagine and logically assume that one of your outlets is writing. ![]() Hopefully at this point in your life you’ve found a creative outlet.
